Every family has their own way of celebrating the festive season; quiet mornings, shared meals, laughter, and love. This season, we’re celebrating the small traditions that make the holidays so special, told through the eyes of our Nature Baby community. Here's Christmas told by @kimburrows & Jordyn Robinett x
Christmas with Kim Burrows
1. Do you have any special traditions you look forward to every Christmas?
Since I was in my early twenties I have looooooved gift-wrapping (blame my uni job at Living & Giving), and so come Christmastime I’ve always put a lot of thought into my wrapping and have had a bit of a theme or vibe every year. The last couple of years I’ve enjoyed getting my eldest son Theo involved. Last year he drew colourful little crayon doodles all over white paper which we added fun ribbons to, and this year we’re using potato stamps to paint star wrapping paper. It’s definitely not as perfect as I used to have it, but it’s so much more special being a joint effort and something he gets excited to gift to the recipient.
2. Are there any traditions you’ve carried on from your own childhood?
I always got a stocking from Santa, and I just loved that magical feeling of waking up to a lumpy stocking on Christmas morning after you left it empty the night before. I collect little things for the boys’ stockings in the months prior (my younger son Finn’s birthday is December 22nd so I really need to be organised at this time of year...), and I love finding secondhand treasures in opshops and marketplace that are inexpensive but feel so special.

3. What’s your favourite memory of Christmas with your children so far?
I feel like last year was the first time Theo (now four) really got excited for Christmas, so I loved seeing that and helping to make it magical for him. I found a $4 Buzz Lightyear at an opshop for his stocking and he was SO thrilled with it, he carried it around all day long under his arm and took it to bed – it was just like Andy in Toy Story. We only recently realised if you put batteries in him he talks, so that was like Christmas all over again!
4. How do you create a sense of warmth, love, and togetherness during the holidays?
That real Christmas tree smell, sparkling tree lights, dried orange garlands, the Charlie Brown Christmas album… I’m excited just thinking about it!!! I always want to start every tradition I see on Instagram, but sometimes it’s nice to just remember that the kids are just pumped that there’s a tree inside with lights on it.

Christmas with Jordyn Robinett
Absolutely! Growing up we always made a whole event of going and getting our Christmas tree and decorating as a family completed with cookies, hot cocoa, and followed by a Christmas movie. It’s so special doing the same ritual with my own family now to ring in the season

Gosh so many throughout the years! Last year and the year before my kids woke us up so early on Christmas morning. It was probably before the sun rose, they were just so excited. I’ll never forget those moments of pure joy anticipating Christmas morning and all the magic they experience throughout the day
I try to plan intentional time together doing special Christmas things such as baking, watching Christmas movies, or going on family walks to look at Christmas lights. I always pray that the season would be filled with so much love and warmth so that my kids will always treasure this special season and cherish the memories with their family
