the fashion revolution: making consciously

Fashion Revolution is a not for profit community interest company whose mission is to create a fashion industry which values people, the environment, creativity and profit in equal measure. The aim is to bring everyone in the fashion industry chain together and help to raise awareness of the true cost of fashion, show the world that change is possible, and celebrate those involved in creating a more sustainable future.

One of the key ideas behind the Fashion Revolution is transparency, which is the first step to transforming the industry and it starts with one question: Who made my clothes? This simple question empowers people to think differently about what they wear and use their voices, questions and shopping habits to help change things for the better. With more consumers encouraging brands to answer ‘who made my clothes?’ the belief is that this will push the industry to be more transparent about their production processes.

Transparency is core to our philosophy at Nature Baby as we believe in a production process that values and benefits all workers, the environment and our consumers. In celebrating Fashion Revolution Day and the question: who made my clothes? We take a peek into a recent trip to India where co- founder Jacob Faull chatted to some of the pioneers and wonderful individuals who make our products come to life at Nature Baby asking the people who made our clothes what they value.

Our Makers

Ranjana - Organic cotton maker

Ranjana is one of the tailors at our organic cotton manufacturers. She has been working there for 12 years and is a mother to Hardik 22 and Aman 19.

Why is it important to you to work for an ethical company?

I feel good working for an ethical company because it is a healthy and safe working environment and we all work as a part of a company that wants to do good.

What's an idea you can share that will change the world?

To be responsible for waste - recycle paper, bottles, plastic cans and we all together should take a stand.

Amit - Organic cotton pioneer

Amit is the founder of an exclusively organic cotton garment manufacturing company and father to daughters Ananya 16 and Sakshi 14.

What are the main differences running an organic v conventional manufacturing company?

An organic company has more to it than just the bottom line. The more we grow the more of our planet becomes (or remains) organic. Also the more humble and often forgotten farmers are benefited, it's satisfying and not guilty to grow.

What's an idea you can share that will change the world

Reduce, reuse and recycle, my wife Monisha has just launched a new business focusing on composting household kitchen waste for one of India’s most populous cities rather than paying to dump it somewhere where it can’t break down so we are now making this a reality too!

Amy - Nature Baby

Amy is the collection manager at Nature Baby. She helps to design the new ranges, dream up new artwork, new styles, and be creative. She has been with Nature Baby for nearly 15 years and is mother to 8 year old Poppy.

Why is it important to you to work for an ethical company?

Being ethical in manufacturing and using sustainable products is really important and something to be proud of. It benefits the farmers, the tailors, our customers, and the environment. It’s a win-win for everyone!

What's an idea you can share that will change the world for the better?

I am trying to be more conscious of what I buy and consume, supporting local and ethical businesses who are doing good things. Buy quality, not quantity.

RK Master - Organic cotton production

RK Master, as he is known to his team, is the Production Manager at at our organic cotton manufacturers and father of four to Reena 30, Meena 28, Ajay 21 and Sachin 19

Why is it important to you to work for an ethical company?

We have a healthy working environment and everyone is entitled to a high standard of facilities, healthcare and subsidized healthy food and it’s nice to be a part of organization that follows good manufacturing practices for all.

What's an idea you can share that will change the world for the better?

I want to say to the world that to a save tree is to save a life.

Jacob - Nature Baby

Jacob is the co-founder and creative director at Nature Baby, and father to Eliza 21, Nat 17 and Thea 12.

Why is it important to you to work for an ethical company?

Knowing that what you are doing has a positive effect on all people’s lives rather than just benefiting one group while others suffer.

What's an idea you can share that will change the world?

Be an individual that supports change for the better. Look at principles like community, natural and sustainable and work out how these can be achieved through modern practices, like solar and water collection at home or supporting companies that are helping the community/environment/world.

Kusum - Organic cotton maker

Kusum is one of the tailors at our organic cotton manufacturers. She has been working there for 14 years along with her husband and is a mother of three to, Ragini 22, Kamini 21 and Darshan 19.

Why is it important to you to work for an ethical company?

We feel happy and proud working for an ethical company because the company uses 100% organic material. At my last job we would suffer from respiratory illness when using synthetic or fabrics with chemical treatments, there is none of that here. The company also takes care of our health, safety and access to clean drinking water which can be a problem in India.

What's an idea you can share that will change the world?

Save water because a drop of water is worth more than a sack of gold to a thirsty man.
